Hack Nashville ‘Cinco de Mayo’ edition

Volunteering on the board of local organization, Hack Nashville is an honor for me. I was happy to help them come up with some fun graphics for this weekend’s upcoming hackathon where developers come together to build applications in a fast-paced, weekend long competition. This weekend is Cinco de Mayo and incidentally, May 4th is “Star Wars Day”. So, it was only appropriate to depict a Chewbacca-like character with a sombrero and a wrench along with the slogan and badge artwork I developed. “Built in Nashville” is the slogan that encompasses what Hack Nashville is all about. The area is a hotbed for talented developers and these events provide a platform for displaying these skills as well as a way to strengthen the local developer network.

The concept for the badge was simple. I wanted to provide a badge of honor for the attendees to show proudly via swag which will come in the form of tshirts, iPhone cases, and other goodies at this weekend’s event. The original sketch was proposed and accepted amongst the board members and will adorn the swag to serve as a message to others that individuals attended and are affiliated with the organization as ‘an official hacker’ of Hack Nashville.

MicroExplosion Media Christmas Card

Christmas Card Design
Coined as “The Smallest Christmas Card in the World”, this piece was designed for MicroExplosion Media this year to show some love to their clients. The cards were printed at Moo.com on their Luxe stock and are only the size of a business card. We treated the heavy copy on the front with a bold typeface versus the regular to yield an emerged Christmas Tree and echoed that effect on the back when we laid out the title. Fun project! Check out our client MicroExplosion Media.

Hack Nashville Branding & Event logo

I recently had the privilege of teaming up with some of the smartest guys I know to organize the 2nd event under the newly formalized brand name, “Hack Nashville”. The event which kicks off today, will be called “Hacktoberfest”. It will boast over 100 registered technology professionals set to attend at Emma Email Marketing’s new offices on 7 Lea Ave in Nashville.

The initiative was founded by developers and by their own admittance is ‘for developers’ as well. The concept is simple, a 48 hour hacking event where developers, designers and other essential tech professionals team up to build software in a high paced, collaborative environment. Sunday is reserved for a final sprint and presentation that is followed by an award ceremony where a winner is selected by a vote amongst peers.

My role in the planning of this 2nd event was primarily to oversee and implement a strategy for the branding efforts. The deliverables included an event logo, website, merchandise and social media graphics as well as to shape the core identity for the organization itself.

Project Images:

  • Uses traditional programming characters to make up it's form. ex: |-|/\(|<
  • Logo portrayed in block showing makeup of mark
  • Pattern element derived from "Hack Nashville" in binary!
  • Geek Level: 10 ... own it!
  • Eat. -Sleep-. Hack.
  • Laptop sticker and tshirt

Thanks to: Avery Fisher, Calvin Froedge, Jamin Guy, Ben Stucki, Emma Email Marketing and Flo Labs for making this event possible!

Somnium Labs

Somnium, Latin for “the dream”, is based in Tennessee and provides technology development for businesses. Conceptually, Somnium is in a similar line of work as CEED Creative, making concepts a reality. The concept for the logo is derived from the meaning of the word. The brain in the human silhouette is a cloud accompanied by stars and it begs the clientele to get their heads in the cloud. We came up with the tagline, “Dream Big” to accentuate this concept and created a variation of the mark that includes it.

The use of negative space is important in the Somnium brand design to ‘activate’ the often used cloud cutaways in the designs.

We provided: Company logo, tagline, color palette, stationery, email template, social media graphics and a website design for this client.
